Application of a global optimization process to the design of pickup heads for compact and digital versatile disks
A global optimization process is developed for designing an objective lens for multiple-configuration applications. As a demonstration, it is shown that diffraction-limit performance can be achieved f...
Three-dimensional reconstruction of an object using three-planar homography of a single image
Camera calibration is essential in order to perform 3-D reconstruction from uncalibrated images. This paper proposes a new technique of camera calibration using a homography among three planar pattern...
A compact mechanical package is developed for a standardmicroscope that implements a solid immersion lens (SIL) on aretractable bimorph swing arm. With the compact package mounted onan inverted microscope, far-field and near-field images are obtained atthe same location by moving the SIL with the swingarm. With white-light incoherent illumination, the resolution of this systemfor observing digital versatile discs is around 200 nm with aneffective numerical aperture of 1.5. Imaging with the SIL iscompared with an atomic force microscopy scan.
